StandardDescription
ASTM A931This test method covers the tension testing of wire ropes and strand at room temperature, specifically to determine the minimum acceptance strength or nominal strength, yield strength, elongation, and modulus of elasticity.
ASTM C1557This test method covers the preparation, mounting, and testing of single fibers (obtained either from a fiber bundle or a spool) for the determination of tensile strength and Young’s modulus at ambient temperature. Advanced ceramic, glass, carbon and other fibers are covered by this test standard.
ASTM D1294This test method covers the determination of the breaking force (or load) and estimation of the tensile strength and tenacity of wool fiber bundles with a 1-in. (25.4-mm) gage length.
ASTM D1445This test method covers the determination of (1) the tensile strength or breaking tenacity of cotton fibers as a flat bundle using a nominal zero gage length, or ( 2) the tensile strength or breaking tenacity and the elongation at the breaking load of cotton fibers as a flat bundle with 1/8-in. (3.2-mm) clamp spacing.
ASTM D1578This test method covers the determination of the breaking strength of yarn in skein form. The observed breaking strength is expressed in units of force, and equations are provided to convert breaking strength to skein breaking tenacity and to skein break factor.
ASTM D1871This test method cover procedures for testing the strength of adhesion of single-filament wire to vulcanized rubber compounds. The method applies to, but is not limited to, wire made from brass, bronze, or zinc coated steel wire. The adhesion strength is expressed as the magnitude of the pull-out force for the single filament of wire.
ASTM D2229This test method covers the determination of the force required to pull a steel cord from a block of vulcanized rubber.
ASTM D2256This test method covers the determination of tensile properties of monofilament, multifilament, and spun yarns, either single, plied, or cabled with the exception of yarns that stretch more than 5.0 % when tension is increased from 0.05 to 1.0 cN/tex (0.5 to 1.0 gf/tex).
ASTM D2343This test method covers the determination of the comparative tensile properties of glass fiber strands, yarns, and rovings in the form of impregnated rod test specimens when tested under defined conditions of pretreatment, temperature, humidity, and tension testing machine speed.
ASTM D2524This test method covers the determination of the breaking tenacity of wool fibers as a flat bundle with a 1/8-in. (3.2-mm) clamp separation.
ASTM D3106This test method covers the determination of the permanent deformation of bare, continuous elastomeric monofilaments and filament yarns made from rubber, spandex, anidex, or other elastomers subjected to prolonged periods of tension. This test method is applicable to elastomeric yarns having a linear density in the range from 4 to 320 tex (36 to 2900 den.).
ASTM D3217These test methods cover the measurement of the breaking tenacity of manufactured textile fibers taken from filament yarns, staple, or tow fiber, either crimped or uncrimped, and tested in either a double loop or as a strand formed into a single overhand knot.
ASTM D3379This test method covers the preparation, mounting, and testing of high-modulus single-filament materials [over > 21 10 9 Pa (> 3 106 psi)] for the determination of tensile strength and Young’s modulus, at room temperature.
ASTM D3822This test method covers the measurement of tensile properties of natural and man-made single textile fibers of sufficient length to permit mounting test specimens in a tensile testing machine.
ASTM D4964This test method covers the measurement of tension and elongation of wide or narrow elastic fabrics made from natural or man-made elastomers, either alone or in combination with other textile yarns, when tested with a constant-rate-of-extension (CRE) type tensile testing machine.
ASTM D5450This test method determines the transverse tensile properties of wound polymer matrix composites reinforced by high-modulus continuous fibers. It describes testing of hoop wound (90°) cylinders in axial tension for determination of transverse tensile properties.
ASTM D6720This test method covers the determination of the recoverable stretch of commercial textured yarns, covered elastomeric yarns and other stretch yarns using skeins.
ASTM D885These test methods cover the testing of industrial filament yarns made wholly of manufactured organic-base fibers, cords twisted from such yarns, fabrics woven from such cords, and products that are made specifically for use in the manufacture of pneumatic tires.
ASTM F459These test methods cover tests to determine the pull strength of a series of wire bonds.
